Description: Vintage Free Former Aluminum Skateboard w/ ALS Industry Trucks and Free Former Urethane Wheels This vintage skateboard is in new, unused condition, which is exceptionally rare given that it rolled off the Free Former line just under 50 years ago as this eBay listing goes live in 2024... To save you the trouble of doing the arithmetic, that places the production date of this classic piece of Americana in the late 1970s. Just as rare as the board's immaculate condition is its solid aluminum composition, machined and formed from a piece of bar stock to its finished dimension of 3/8” (just under 5mm) thick. ALS Industries produced a limited number of these all-metal boards in small runs during the Summers of 1976 and 1977 to coincide with The Free Former California World Professional Skateboard Championships, one of the first skateboarding competitions held in Long Beach Arena and sponsored by Free Former Skateboards. These units were not made for sale to the general public on the commercial market. Instead, they were distributed as promotional items to official Free Former Skateboard dealers, predominantly on the West Coast. Estimates by former ALS Industry employees of the total number of these promotional aluminum units manufactured range from 100 to 200 per year for the two years they were made, making this example among the rarest and most collectible skateboards ever produced by Free Former and ALS Industries. As stated before, the condition of this board is simply incredible, making it all the more rare and coveted a piece for collectors.
