Description: Lithographs of Johnny Laughing Horse and Whispering winds. The prints are signed. They are matted in a cream with a simple wood frame and is all original with the prints. Monteaque Flagg went to artist school in France after his dad who also was a famous artist encouraged him. He was in his 20’s when he worked on becoming an artist. He spent 10 years in France studying. First in the atelier of Louis-Marie-Francois Jacquesson de la Chevreuse before entering the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1876. When he returned to America he settled in New York as a portrait and genre painter. He taught at Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, Connecticut and at the Academy. He exhibited in the Academy in 1877 and again 1879 and 1880. He contributed in 1882 and 1883. He also contributed to the Society’s annual exhibition in 1883 the year he became a member. He won the Thomas R Proctor prize for portraiture in 1909.His western oil paintings and portraits of celebrated personalities hang in many noted museums. He spent his childhood in early 30’s in an old covered wagon among Native Americans. He captured the mischievous personalities of the little ones who in turn captured his heart. They have won several national rewards. These portraits were done in the 1950’s. He was born in 1929 and died 1985.
