Description: This Razor: This is a nice, older (1840s - 1850s) square-tipped heavy wedge grind cutthroat straight razor manufactured by the renowned Sheffield cutlers, Wade & Butcher. It measures slightly over just over 13/16ths of an inch in width at its widest point. It has a nice deep maker's stamp on the tang. The edge has a subtly smiling edge that offers a forgiving touch when shaving. This razor has newly custom-made scales of natural streaked water-buffalo horn. Wade & Butcher was one of the truly legendary Sheffield razor manufacturers and the enduring quality of their blades even now remains highly desirable. This one was built for the generations. The Work: I refurbished this blade by unpinning it, removing all rust, polishing it to a nice sheen. I made custom scales from a gorgeous burnt-caramel-colored piece of water-buffalo horn, pinning it together with brass pins and the original 19th-century iron collars. As usual, some visible pitting remains. Please scrutinize the photos for details. 160+ years old and still going strong, ready to serve several more generations! This razor has a nice solid feel in the hand and it glides smoothly and quietly on the face. There's good reason these gorgeous old W & Bs razors have a broad and loyal following.
